About Crystals…

In short, it takes a combination of temperature and pressure to form crystals. Crystals form in the when the molten rock of the earth’s mantle and the shifting plates of the earth’s crust collide, creating fractures and cavities – essentially the perfect pressure chambers for crystals to form and grow.

While at first glance crystals are simply beautiful, gleaming, colorful gems, each is actually a highly structured lattice of atoms that creates its structure. There are seven geometric structure systems that create crystals: triclinic, monoclinic, orthorhombic, tetragonal, trigonal, hexagonal, and cubic. These atomic lattice systems vibrate at certain frequencies and give crystals their energy. Yes, energy from crystals is a real, scientific thing!

I believe the beauty of crystals can be found in their structure, their color, their vibrance and their energy. The crystals you find on the Bon Chance website are incorporated into jewelry because I find it’s a lot more convenient to don a necklace or bracelet than to carry around a stone all day.

There are many things that go into the unique beauty of a particular crystal. We tend to gravitate to the color and energy. The energy is created by the atomic lattice system described in the formation section. The color is influenced by the crystal structure, trace elements (like copper, iron, chromium, titanium) and light absorption. The cut of a gemstone also affects is brilliance or vibrance and can influence the color we see.
