On a somewhat subliminal level I’ve been collecting Jasper stones for well over a decade. I am drawn to the beautiful images in the layers of earth compacted together by time and gravity. And while I started designing metaphysically inspired jewelry almost a decade ago, the beautiful Jasper stones were never part of the collections — until recently.
I had a client who commissioned a piece for her niece to reduced anxiety and promote tranquility and peace. While there are many crystals and gemstones that would accomplish that, this person is an artist and gravitates towards the subtle earth colors. As I meditated on her photo and the desired result, Jasper became such an obvious choice.
And then as I worked with these special beauties, I fell in love with them. Each one is so unique. The colors, the energy and the pictures I see in them – all so beautiful. I’m enjoying working with Jasper and wearing it. I feel the calm nurturing energy that Jasper is so known for.
I suppose Jasper is a bit of a mutt. While it is basically Quartz, generally considered a Chalcedony, it is the trace impurities, oxides, volcanic ash and other organic matter that make it so interesting. I’ve always liked mutts — every one lovable and a little unique.
The energies and healing properties of Jasper vary with the colors, which are influenced by the specific mineral content, consolidation and geographic location. Some of the well-known varieties include Ocean Jasper, a stone of happiness offering protection and support, Zebra Jasper, an excellent balancing stone, also known to increase stamina and willpower, and Picture Jasper, a grounding and harmonizing stone that promotes global awareness.
Jasper is found all over the world and has been valued since ancient times for its healing and protective powers. Egyptians wore Jasper amulets for protection, Native Americans used it to find water and bring rain, and many believe it to be the twelfth stone in the high priest’s breastplate.
Thanks for walking a few steps with me on the Jasper Journeys.
I hope you will enjoy the new Jasper offerings in my Bella Terra collection. I most certainly enjoyed creating them for you.
Namasté.
